a new song...
Originally a playwright – creator of such dramas as The Naked Guest about the poet Pushkin and High Risk Zone about Londoners living in fear of everything from terrorist bombs to muggers to failed relationships – John Farndon has in recent years turned to writing his own unique style of musicals, each with its own rich and distinctive style of music, from the dark Russian romanticism Anya to the haunting Irish mysticism of The Dreamweaver. This website is a taster of both John Farndon’s plays and his music
Anya and dreamweaver
In December last year, John Farndon’s musicals Anya and Dreamweaver were showcased at the Donmar Warehouse in London, musically directed by Warren Wills. Among the performers were singers Eliza Lumley, Graham Bickley, Anthony Cable, Mike Scott and Anna Blake, celtic harpist Sarah Deere-Jones, violinist Jake Walker, and brilliant Russian accordionist Igor Outkine with violinist Sarah Harrison. The showcase would not have been possible, however, without the support, both financial and moral, of the very much missed Emma Foa, tragically killed soon afterwards.
new recordings
John is currently making demo recordings of songs from Anya and The Fifth Duchess with Warren Wills, Chantelle Duncan and Glyn Kerslake. In St Petersburg, Russia, the folk group Koleso are currently recording some of the songs from Anya.
